Helping businesses go for 2012 gold

Competing for success

With up to 7,000 contracts available and around 75,000 contractors needed, the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games offer huge commercial potential. And now, for the first time, a web-based initiative brings businesses unique access to these exciting procurement opportunities.

A free and easy to use service, CompeteFor delivers dedicated tender and business support. Any company can register by visiting www.London2012.com/business, clicking on CompeteFor and following the straightforward instructions. They will then receive immediate information on specific supply chain opportunities.

“It is a vital first step for any organisation that wants to put itself in the running,” said Kul Sanghera Head of Supplier Development at Business Link in the West Midlands. “Contracts are available across a vast range of sectors from construction and infrastructure to ICT, merchandise, security, professional services, environmental technologies and more. CompeteFor doesn’t just give full details of the main contracts either, but second, third and lower tier opportunities too.”

Supporting winning performance

Beyond the CompeteFor initiative, Business Link in the West Midlands has developed a range of programmes to make sure that companies have the information and skills they need to apply successfully.

To start with, Opportunity Awareness Workshops and Procurement Readiness Workshops are being held across the region. These free-of-charge events provide focused advice and guidance on all aspects of the registration process.

There are also Specialist Surgeries delivering one-to-one advice and support on specific bid development options and requirements, as well as expert advisers on hand at every stage. What’s more, companies can download a range of free information packs and templates from Business Link’s website at www.businesslinkwm.co.uk
