Kids Organic Clothes sell organic cotton and bamboo fibre baby clothes. Read how Glynis Cook turned her spare time into a successful business...
I am a 54 year-old woman realising a dream. I have always wanted my own business but had never been in a position to fulfil this dream. Then three years ago our family life turned upside down. My husband and father to our two children now 21 and 16, was diagnosed with a degenerative brain disease.
As our social life decreases, I had more time in the evenings and at the weekends.
I started to look for different things to do. I learnt how to do manicure and pedicures, acrylic nails and garden design. Then one day I was reading an article on cotton production and the damage caused by all the pesticides to the environment. The idea came to me to sell organic cotton baby clothes.
Business start up help
Then an article appeared in the Coventry Telegraph paper about a WBDA ‘Be Your Own Boss’ workshop. I went on the course and wow... my whole life changed!!
I then went on to receive one to one business mentoring sessions. I received brilliant business advice from the Women’s Business Development Agency! I went on many free courses that they offer and got plenty of invaluable information from their website. All of the above gave me the confidence to go ahead with my business idea. I would definitely not be where I am with my business without them!
About Kids Organic Clothes
So now Kids Organic Clothes was born. I sell organic cotton and bamboo fibre baby clothes for 0-24month old babies. We do party plan and crafts fairs. And my website is now launched too. www.kidsorganicclothes.co.uk
Although my husband has not been able to support me in my venture, it is great to bring a smile to his face when I come home and proudly announce that I have sold an item.
My aim now is to increase my business and eventually give up my full-time job.
I have now learnt – that you should just go ahead and do it! Stop day dreaming and just take a chance!!
My advice to other women thinking about setting up their own business – go for it! Try and go on all the courses you can and attend as many networking events as you can!
