"I heard about WBDA through a leaflet I picked up at a business event I attended locally. I needed to talk through my business ideas with someone who knew if my goals where attainable and who could give me the advice I needed in order to get started. I needed someone to help me take the plunge and get my own business started!"

Breeder Scan is a mobile ultrasound pregnancy scanning service for breeders and pet owners.

Find out more about how Trudy Talbot came up with this idea…

Trudy Talbot - West Midlands Womens Business CentreFor the last 10 years I have been a college lecturer specialising in teaching learners with learning difficulties and/or behavioural problems. I love my job, but as teaching becomes increasingly more ‘paperwork based’ than actual teaching, I have become very disillusioned and so started to think about branching out in a completely new direction.

My passion (because it is definitely more than a hobbie!) is breeding and showing bullmastiffs and they now play an important part in my life. Ideally I wanted to combine my love of all things canine with some sort of business venture.

Business support from the Women’s Business Development Agency

The WBDA provided me with my own Business Advisor, Joy Hunter, who I met with at regular intervals and has proved to be really helpful. She gave me some excellent ideas and motivated me to get on with things when I need to.

Joy motivated me to start up my business and provided me with training opportunities. One such training session I attended was run by the Inland Revenue and I found it to be really worthwhile.

As a result of the support I have received I feel far more confident that my business will progress and grow over the next 5 years.

Idea becomes reality

Eventually after a year researching I now have my own business of providing a mobile ultrasound pregnancy scanning service for breeders and pet owners.

Having gone through the trauma of breeding litters myself I knew how important an early pregnancy diagnosis was and also how expensive it was if carried out by a veterinary surgeon. Over the years I have amassed a huge network for ‘doggie’ people and felt that I could put my networking skills to good use.
