Read how she turned her finance skills into a business….

I’m married with a young daughter who has worked for the last 15years in finance. This includes management roles within service and manufacturing businesses. I qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2004. After having my daughter I decided that I wanted to have flexibility and work closer to home so considered starting my own business. I didn’t want to go wholly alone so decided that buying an Accountancy Practise Franchise would be ideal for me.

Help setting up

I initially contacted Nuneaton & Bedworth Council for advice on any relevant funding available to me and they put me in touch with the Women’s Business Development Agency. Building a network of other women in business for support and guidance throughout the business growth process seems to be very powerful and rewarding.

I had already prepared my business plan and received funding from the bank prior to meeting with the Women’s Business Development Agency but I was supported by my business advisor, Joy, through the awareness of marketing, networking and other business support.

It helped with having the backing of the Franchise to assist me with the necessary information required. But one area of having my own business which was challenging was the sales and marketing, I felt that I have the confidence but how to use this to my best ability was the hard part which I needed to learn.

Joy helped me to think and develop my marketing plan and offered Cheryl Hopkins from TaxAssist Accountantsguidance on places to market my services.
