Beverley Roye: Hair By Beverley

My name is Beverly and I am from Jamaica. I came to this country 10 years ago and worked at several places since being here and then worked as a mobile hair dresser.

How it all began

I have always been interested in becoming self employed – even before I came to this country. After being a mobile hairdresser I saw the potential to be successful if I started my own business and become self employed. Beverley Roye from Hair By Beverley set up her business with the help from WBDA

When I was at the Job Centre, I asked who I could get advice from about starting my own business and they referred me to the Women’s Business Development Agency. I got in touch and Margaret booked me onto a few free business workshops and then after attending those I was booked in to see a business advisor called Michelle Grindley.

Michelle and WBDA supported me from the very beginning when I first had the business idea right up until I started! I encountered a few challenges along the way, such as opening a bank account, a lack of confidence and a lack of finance but thanks to the support from WBDA I have turned my dream into reality!
