"Spend time on your business plan to ensure your business idea is viable. Do not do it when you have already started trading as you will never find the time to dedicate to it. Also make sure you have a good support network i.e. husband/partner/family – you will definitely need it!"
Sue Koria from Luv 2 Accessorize
I recently turned 42 and have been married to Raj for the last 13 years. I have
two children a girl called Savannah and a boy called Jordan.
I became redundant in June 2009 after working within the banking industry for 21 years. Decided, with a colleague, that it would be an ideal opportunity to set up in business together so we could achieve a work life balance and ideally work from home.
Setting up the business
I was claiming jobseekers at the time of my decision and asked at the Job Centre what support was available if I wanted to set up my own business and I was given Business Links number who put me in touch with the Women’s Business Development Agency.
I accessed a huge range of free business workshops through WBDA, such as, Planning for Your Business, Marketing and Making Finance Simple. I was also able to have one to one business advice sessions with a business advisor, Carole Flanagan, who provided lots of valuable advice with regards to my business and has helped to grow my confidence!
The business is a lot more structured now. I am building up my marketing strategy which has helped me to become more focused on what needs doing and when and not leaving things to chance.
